We are constantly invited
For so many of us, the question of "who I am" or "who I want to become" is not even considered because we are too busy trying to become what others want us to be. We waste our time doing things that are opposite of what we most deeply need. We sacrifice our true self for the possibility of acceptance into a world we doubt loves us anyways. We sever our being from authentic feelings of joy, spontaneity, and aliveness. We stop believing we have a right to our own individual hopes, goals, and dreams. We believe we matter little, if at all, and have difficulty asserting our own needs. Oftentimes, our life becomes a battleground where we struggle to maintain our self-esteem. We may distract ourselves through work, addictions, "busy"-ness -- anything to keep us from having to be alone. We may enter into cycles of destructive behavior, numb ourselves out to experience, or simply find ourselves stuck in unhealthy patterns of behavior. Our efforts at intimacy may be stifled, for we do not believe we deserve the love for which we so deeply long. We may not know where to turn. We may not know what to do. There is a way out of the fog. There is a light that can help show the way home: spiritually-based psychology. |
